Breathtaking Views and Serenity: Charming, Rustic Cottage on 3 Acres. Escape to a picturesque setting, nestled on 3 acres with stunning views of the village, bay, and beach. With ample space, new furniture, and comfortable mattresses, you'll feel right at home.
Indulge in complimentary coffee and tea and find everything you need in our well-equipped kitchen. This charming 100+ year-old cottage exudes warmth and charm, making it the perfect destination for those seeking adventure & relaxation.
This two-floor cottage was first built in 1875 by our relatives and has been in the family since. There is an open kitchen with a view. You can retreat to your own rooms for a nap or write a letter on your desk overlooking the ocean and lighthouse.
The front porch overlooks the boats and the bay to your right and then the ocean beach area to your left.
Something to note is that there is a spiral staircase to the
upstairs where you will need to duck your head down as you go up and down the stairs. It is not hard to navigate, but it is to be noted and expected in this older home.
The bathroom is on the first floor and there is a bedroom on the main floor as well.
Spend time together in the living room for games or talking and sit around the wood-burning stove or turn on the TV for a movie.
To the west of the home and behind the home are acres of private property to walk and hike. Once or twice a week there is someone from the village that will walk up the trail to go fishing off the rocks as they have done for hundreds of years. You can get your poles from the house and get out there as well. It is super easy to cast and catch if the mackerel are running!
Hopefully, a good part of your time will be on the front porch looking over the beach and the bay or being active outside.
As a reminder, there are other cottages in front of our property that seasonal residents come to as you can see in the pictures.
Again, this property is on three acres but there are five other homes on the island area all with private property.
You will have access to everything in the cottage. You can chop wood, put on the wetsuit and snorkeling gear, head down to the bay to look for crabs and lobster on the ocean floor, enjoy the privacy of three acres, and so much more.
Outside there is small crab catching at low tide, swimming in the ocean, walking on the rocks, fishing (gear included), hiking, snorkeling (one set of gear included), and a drive around the Cabot Trail!
We have maintenance help and friendly neighbors for any type of issues or help you may need.
You have a few acres to yourself! You can walk your own trails or down to the village. There are a few seasonal single-family dwellings which you can see in the pictures on the island. They really don't interfere with your great view. There is a rich Gagarus history on the island and also in the village that you will experience. Gabarus is a fishing village with a boat-building heritage. Come and explore the beauty and history.
Ideally, you do a lot of walking and enjoying the simplicity.
The three acres are private property. Yet there is sometimes a fisherman that will walk up the west side of the property to fish off the rocks.
It is a beautiful cottage with spectacular views. Many locals say that our home has the best views in Gabarus. Yet it is an older home. Even with all our renovations and newer beds and furniture, it was still built in 1885!
There is no AC. Heat is from the fire-burning stove. You spiral your way up the stairs. You will hear some creaking in the floors. The home is super comfortable and charming and you will make memories. Yet the Ritz it is not.
If you want a getaway to get away from it all and experience a fishing village with trails, beaches, and history and charm...then this is your place!
Also, we have a great local cleaner and handyman that are available for you as needed. We will be available for any questions or needs that you may have!
